Another way to determine if your sand filter needs cleaning is if the water in your pool is cloudy. Backwashing is a cleaning method that helps reverse the water back into the sand through a hose to remove dirt and debris.
Similar to cleaning cartridge filters, you have to make sure that the pump and pool filter is completely turned off before you proceed with the backwashing process. You will see a series of options such as backwash, rinse, flush, waste, recirculate, and closed.
